Our bridge over the Split Rock River.

Last Saturday Aaron went up to a land auction near Moose Lake.  He left saying he was 98% sure he’d be coming home without land, but that 1% came through.  We now are purchasing 145 acres in Split Rock township in Carlton county.  It’s about 15 miles outside of Moose Lake, has a river running through it, and has some random trailers and small sheds.  There are 4-wheeler trails throughout the property.  There is even a brand new bridge for the 4-wheelers to cross over the Split Rock River, which runs through the property.  I realize buying the land is just the beginning.  Soon we will need 4-wheelers and trailers (not the mobile home kind we already have on the property) and a ton of other things I haven’t thought of yet.  Aaron assures me that we also bought a lot of mosquitoes.  I look forward to seeing the land in person sometime soon.  If you want to see some pictures of the land, check it out over in the photo gallery.

Blingo Button

Do you ever search the internet?  I do all the time.  Do you like free stuff?  I do.  Have you signed up at Blingo yet?  Click on the picture above to sign up!

I signed up at Blingo over a year ago and have done nearly all of my searches from their web site.  It’s powered by Google, but periodically gives away prizes if you search at the right moment.  I won a $100 Visa gift card last year and recently a movie ticket.  Actually, Aaron won a movie ticket from his search.  Because he signed up as my friend, I won too.  How cool is that?  Anyway, I think y’all should sign up on Blingo as my friend.  Then when you win, I win too.  We all win.  You gotta search anyway, don’t you? Just do it.  You know you want to.  Click on the picture or any of the Blingo links in this post to sign up as my friend.

p.s.  You don’t even have to be my friend to sign up.  🙂

Cutting the cucumber.Putting the cucumber back together. All done!Time to yell now.

Bode has really enjoyed his “cutting work” that he got a few months ago.  It’s one of the activities that he had been using at school.  It is made up of wooden fruit and vegetable pieces that are held together with velcro.  He uses a wooden knife to “cut” them apart.  The velcro makes a satisfying cutting sound.  Once he has them in pieces, he puts them back together.  The carrot and cucumber have been his favorite vegetables lately.  Bode also really enjoys real cutting work such as helping Mom chop potatoes and apples.  The problem with him helping with the apples is that lots of them find their way into his mouth!

Bode & Dad in the snowSince Bode didn’t have school last Friday, we decided to let Courtney go to daycare and took Bode skiing at Welch Village for the afternoon.  It was a cold day, but he was dressed warmly and seemed to really enjoy it.  He does so well with the harness/leash that we have.  He balances on the skis and enjoys skiing on the snow.  It’s so cute to see him scoot and rock the skis to get moving if we’re not going soon enough.  He wants to ski…not stand around.

One thing we’ve noticed is that Bode gets a lot of attention on the hill.  As he goes down, everybody is looking at him.  He might even be a celebrity.  Aaron had just finished taking him down his first black diamond run (North Cut) and was standing by the chair lift when a woman came walking up and asked if she could take Bode’s picture.  She wanted to show her 8 year old that kids really do ski!

Courtney started daycare at Children’s Beginnings on January 2nd when Johanna went back to work.  It was a busy first day with a trip to the doctor for a checkup in the middle, but Courtney settled into the day there.  Much like at home, she spends her time sleeping, eating, swinging, snuggling or being in a bouncy seat.  Some of the older infants like to come over and check her out since she’s just a little baby to them.

On January 2nd, Courtney went to the doctor for her 2 month checkup.  We’d been trying to roughly guess her weight before they weighed her, but we were off.  She weighed in at 12 pounds 15 ounces!  That puts her at the 95th percentile for her weight.  At 22 1/2 inches tall, she’s not a shorty either.  The doctor checked back to Bode’s stats from his 2 month checkup and found that he weighed 1 pound less and was 2 inches shorter.  All this explains why some of her 0-3 month clothes were not fitting very well anymore.  Good thing she’s well stocked already for the next sizes.

Are you looking for pictures of the kids?  Wondering why the littlespacemonkey photo album hasn’t been updated?  Well, I’ve finally made enough progress so that the switchover can begin.  I’ll be updating the *new* House of Hislop Photo Gallery with the new pictures of Bode and Courtney and other Hislop items.

I’m not getting rid of the littlespacemonkey photo gallery yet, but eventually it will disappear.  Until I move more pictures, the older ones of Bode and some others can still be found over there.

So…tell your friends, and every one you know, where to find the pictures now.
